School Council Reports
- Together As One - Postponed
- Principal Gordon noted that the event didn’t take place due to minimal number of secured craft and rummage sale vendors
- The group discussed the previous suggestion of hosting the event in September as a back-to-school event piggybacked on a football game
- Additional discussion examined the possibility of hosting the event in October. This would allow for additional time to secure a variety of vendors, volunteers and provide more time for advertisement of the event. The group also discussed how it would be beneficial to involve the new student council in the planning and also take into consideration that September is an incredibly busy month for so many that the additional time may ensure a more successful event.
- Regional Parent Symposium
- Principal Gordon provided an overview of the event to Parent Council. He noted the keynote speaker’s presentation was titled, “Parenting - Navigating Everything” with breakout sessions that further examined a variety of parenting issues. Principal Gordon attended a breakout session on the exploitation of children that he found very informative.
- Members of Parent Council asked if it would be possible to provide a video link to the keynote speaker’s presentation for Huron parents in the Huron Bulletin. Principal Gordon supported this idea and said he would look into this action item.
- Staff Appreciation Breakfast
- Principal Gordon stated that the event would be taking place on Friday, June 27, 2025 and would occur prior to the Staff P.A. Day meeting.
- Principal Gordon encouraged members of Parent Council to contact Nicole Meltzer if they are interested in assisting with the event. He also projected approx. 110 attendees with the only food concerns being offering gluten-free options and perhaps limiting peanut ingredients.
- Julie referenced the timeline for the event as suggested by Vice Principal Corey McArthur at the Parent Council meeting on March 24th:
