The PAE Department at Huron Heights houses a variety of uniquely designed classroom and work experience programs. Alternative programming includes Junior Intensive Classes, Alternative Learning for Excused Pupils (A.L.E.P.), Supervised Alternative Learning (S.A.L.) , and Exploring Opportunities Pathway (E.O.P.) . This array of programs might appeal to students who identify with any or all of the following:
- Are academically at Risk
- Have been removed from the regular classroom for some time.
- Would benefit from having fewer student per class, and fewer teacher/classroom changes daily.
- Want to combine classroom learning with workplace learning and experience.
- Are interested in pursuing a career in the Trades or obtaining an Apprenticeship.

For employed students, with 16 or more credits, hoping to complete senior level compulsory credits by attending school once a week, while still being able to earn elective credits through their employment. A.L.E.P offers the opportunity to complete high school in a non-traditional way, allowing students to earn a paycheck and credits through their existing job. The Exploring Opportunities Program is designed for students with an interest and aptitude in manufacturing, construction or transportation. Students may accumulate up to 5 credits while gaining valuable work experience and developing the essential skills and work habits needed for a career in manufacturing, construction and transportation.
