The York Region District School Board Specialized Arts Program registration is completed centrally for all candidates. Students are eligible to apply to the school in their Program Area Boundary.

Admission Process
Confirm your eligibility
- You currently live in the Programme Area Boundary indicated on the YRDSB School Locator
- You are a student currently in Grade 8 or Grade 9
Complete the online application
- Complete the online registration process through Edsby.
- Applicants are encouraged to contact the school they are applying to if support is needed in completing the registration process
Follow these instructions for completing the registration.
Please note:
- Grade 8 Progress Report Card
- YRDSB student reports cards will be shared with the Arts schools automatically
- Non-YRDSB students must email a scanned copy of the report card to the school the student is applying to
- Fees: $20.00 non-refundable application fee per discipline (These fees are not eligible for tax receipt).
Workshops and Interviews
Once the applications are processed, students and parents/guardians will be sent information about how to prepare for the workshops and interviews. Invitations to attend the workshops and interviews are sent out via email before the Winter Break. Auditions and Interviews are scheduled during the last two weeks of January.
Additional Notes
- Students may apply to two disciplines but may only accept one offer of admission.
- Students may begin taking classes in multiple disciplines as early as grade 10.
- To earn the certificate, students must join the program by their grade 10 year.
Certificate Requirements
To obtain an Arts Huron Certificate at graduation, students are required to meet the following criteria:
- 7 courses in Major (core and specialized)
- 1 Arts course outside Major (“inside out” credit) (e.g., 7 Dance, 1 Theatre)
Students may take courses in a second discipline starting in grade 10 Hairstyling & Aesthetics and Tech Design can also be used as inside out credits.
Students are able to meet Arts Huron criteria while also fulfilling their High School graduation requirements and partaking in other programs (eg. French Immersion, SHSM, etc)

Audition Details
Audition Date: January 2025
A letter will be sent out to all applicants in December with the audition date and time.
Part 1 - Workshop (50%) - Time TBD
- Students will participate in a one-hour music workshop that includes an interactive music lesson and activities connected to their program of choice. The workshop will focus on musicianship, musicality and ensemble performance skills.
Part 2 - Interview (50%) - 10 minute appointment.
- Students will have the opportunity to meet the Arts Huron music teachers and ask questions they may have about the program. Students will be asked about their musical interests and why they wish to join the Arts Huron music program. Students will be asked to perform the assigned audition pieces that are linked above, as well as a piece or musical exercise of their choosing that demonstrates their musical abilities.
